What you can write to us about

  • Corrections. A historical claim, a symbol meaning, a date or a source that you think is wrong. Send a correction.
  • A problem with a design. Broken knotwork, a design filed under the wrong symbol, or an image that does not load. Report a design.
  • Translations. A mistake or an awkward sentence in any of the eight language versions of the site.
  • Permissions. Questions about using a design, a prompt or text from this site somewhere else. Please read the terms and conditions first, since they answer the most common questions.
  • Privacy requests. Questions about your data, or a request to see or delete an email you sent us. Our privacy policy explains what we collect.
  • Advertising and partnerships. Proposals from tattoo studios, artists or brands. Note that we do not accept payment to feature a design or to change what we write about a symbol.

How to get a faster answer

A few details help a lot:

  1. The link to the page you are writing about. You can copy it from your browser’s address bar.
  2. For a design, a short description of it (for example “the blackwork triskele on the forearm, third row”) or a screenshot.
  3. For a correction, the source you are relying on, such as a book, a museum record or an article. We check every correction against sources before changing a page.

What we cannot help with

To keep expectations clear, there are a few things we do not do:

  • Custom tattoo designs. We do not take commissions or draw personal designs. A local tattoo artist is the right person for that, and our guide to designing a Celtic tattoo explains how to brief one.
  • Bookings or prices. We are not a studio. For typical prices and what affects them, see cost, pain and aftercare.
  • Medical advice. If a tattoo looks infected or is not healing, see a doctor or pharmacist rather than writing to us.
  • Personal translations into Irish or Scottish Gaelic. For words or phrases you plan to tattoo, please use a qualified translator or a native speaker. A spelling mistake is very hard to fix later.

Your email and your privacy

We use your email address only to reply to you. It is never added to a mailing list, sold, or shared with advertisers. Messages are kept only as long as we need them to deal with your request. The privacy policy has the full details.
